Hi everybody, time has flown and I have not been able to of course post again but I was in the middle of a wedding. I’ve only been to one wedding and this was the second and it was awesome. The 26 and 27th of may I attended an Indian wedding and an American wedding. In Indian weddings there are 3 events: a haldi, a mendhi, and the wedding. This wedding included all of those things and a reception. These events were spread out amongst 2 days and I was willing to go through the wedding again. The wedding was for my uncle’s brother’s wedding in Pennsylvania. Since I live a few hours away I had to drive through with my family at 7 because the first event was the Haldi which was around 10. For the Haldi t it is a tradition that you have to wear yellow since Haldi is basically a spice and takes the color of yellow. For the event you put on the bride and groom’s face because it makes their skin glow. You just put it on their face, arms and legs. It is usually done on the wedding day but it was done for them the day before the wedding. Me and my family reached around 9 and nobody was there so we got a nice eating places. Soon the haldi started and there was food, dancing, etc. Soon it was time for the haldi and the bride and groom sat while everybody put haldi on them. After the haldi was put on everybody danced more. People just started leaving slowly after they ate more. My family stayed until around 1 and made a few friends. After the haldi we went to our hotel rooms which were pretty big. We went to our rooms, one for me and my family to stay in and one for my grandparents. We all just rested because it was tiring but we had to get ready around 4 because the next function was taking place around 6. Mehndi party is the pre-wedding celebration in Hindu and Sikh culture when the bride has the red-orange mehndi “stain” applied to her palms, back of hands, and feet. This is also for the guests at the wedding. The mehndi went on until 11 and it was a lot more formal. The next event was the wedding itself and it took place the next day at 1. It took a while for us to get ready but we were and got there on time. We started off the wedding by the groom coming down on a horse and the youngest boy in the family had to be placed on their horse. We went down the road and it took about 30 minutes for pictures and dancing. After this the wedding takes place there’s a lot of rituals for the wedding and Indian wedding. It takes about 45-minutes. The bride usually wears a red dress. It’s very heavy and they wear red Bangles for about 14 days. My parents and I stayed for 15 minutes because my brother is of course only one and he can’t be quiet and loves to run around. He’s not a quiet child and we have to get ready for the reception so during the reception you change into different clothes which are lighter and easier to dance in. The reception had amazing food and included a lot of dancing but sadly the night came to an end.
